Would a silicone juggling ball work as a ball gag for someone that is allergic to latex? Not sure how challenging drilling a hole through it would be.

Re: Would this work?
Tue, January 15, 2008 - 11:04 PMI'm neither a chemist nor a professional with silicone experience so I can't authoritatively claim silicone as an inert chemical compound (although I believe I've heard it is, so a good substitute for latex) -- but anecdotally, I've always heard the weakness with silicone dildos is scratching. I've heard letting your cat anywhere around one leads to scratching. Which leads to increasing cracking. So it sounds as though any sort of violation of the surface of a poured silicone item might just lead to its disintegration, I'm guessing. -

Tue, January 15, 2008 - 11:30 PMHmm, but when used as cooking utensil or baking pan it gets scratched all the time and still holds up? Maybe they've gotten better? -

Re: Would this work?
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 1:37 AMthose silicone heat pads will tear easily. as soom as there's a crack, it's over.
light scritching will not break them, but cut or punch a hole, and it's ruined.
OTOH, you could always cast a ball with a hole already in place -

Re: Would this work?
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 1:40 AMsilicone is not cheap.
if you sub has an allergy to latex, and you want a ball gag, use a turnip!
65 cents at the grocery store, peel and carve to fit
at least as strong as a latex ball
really!
or use a small scrap of a fir 2x4, whittle with a penknife, thebn sand roughly with 50 grit . have one ball for each sub.

Re: Would this work?
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 5:31 PMI havent seen silicone cured hard enough to stand up to being chomped down on like a vulcanized rubber ball. Anything you can take a bite out of as a gag becomes a choking hazard and for that reason, Id stay away from something softer like silicone.
Maybe try half inch hardwood dowel and an appropriately sized hardwood ball drilled to slip over the dowel. add leather straps asn a buckle and you're good to go and its non-latex so the sensitivity is a non-issue.

Re: Would this work?
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 1:40 PMThere's latex rubber and then there's "rubbber"
People allergic to latex will not necessarily be allergic to the "rubber" in superballs (which is similar to the compound in car tires) nor silicone.
But almost all synthetic rubbers are full of traces of strange chemicals used to give them different properties. Some of these are quite toxic.
Even "100% silicone" products have traces of other compounds. It always makes me laugh when I see a dildo (or whatever) labeled as "100% pure silicone" when it is obviously colored, or even has sparkles, etc. The coloring pigments are clearly (no pun intended) not silicone. So who knows what else is in there?

Re: Would this work?
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 9:23 AMWood and/or leather straps are pretty absorbent, and drool is pretty common with gags and ball gags. I've heard criticism of any absorbent materials for use with ball gags. Especially for materials like wood and leather that aren't friendly to cleaning or sterilizing. And I wonder how much I'd like wood in my mouth if I were a sub.
While it's still absorbent, rope gags are easily washable. And easily made. And easily made into ball forms. I've seen lots of online tutorials for making a rope ballgag, usually with something like a monkey's head knot as the center. -

maybe this or you may want to try a hard plastic ball like a wiffel ball type
not soft but won't be allergic -

Re: Would this work?
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 7:55 AMI know this tribe is about making stuff, rather than buying it ready made, but the nonporous plastic ballgag design with a molded partial strap integral to the ball, solves both the latex allergy and the strap decontamination issues.
A number of stores such as Mr./Madame S. and Stormy Leather have been selling them in the last couple of years. I don't know who makes them since the Mr. S sales assistant wouldn't tell me but they are a buy-in. The Madame S. pony head harness is made by taking one of these apart and using the plastic ball and partial strap in conjunction with their in-house leather part.
I've noticed quite a few bondage websites have switched to this make of ballgag, presumably because of the ease of cleaning them between models.
