electro sex toy construction

topic posted Tue, May 23, 2006 - 3:12 PM by  Doug
Does anyone recommendations for advise, ideas, and plans for building electro sex. Is there a tribe or yahoo site or some other site that would be useful. Particularly interested in using a TENS unit.

Instead of making it yourself, you might want to consider buying a cheap unit--Austin Medical Supplies often has a basic TENS unit for around $69 + shipping. That was the cheapest TENS unit when I was looking, and is not much more than the class that Uncle A. teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area. It worked fine for me until I outgrew it.

Doug, I would question your electronics skills first. Are you a competent engineer? Can you fix simple analog circuits, read schematics, discharge high voltage capacitors safely, etc... being able open a television or microwave w/o killing yourself should be a prerequisite to sharing this kind of information.

It doesn't take much current or voltage to really screw with a human, basically all you need is a waveform generator circuit. If you go to wiredpussy you'll see in some of the shots they just use actual, normal good old standard waveform generators and multimeters and lots of pads.

If you want to build one, I guess the question is, can you convince someone to allow you to wire them up with homemade electronics? :)

Frayed ,you need to learn ABOUT what it is that Doug is asking about.
Doug isnt asking to fry his genitals in a 110V plug socket,he is talking about using 100 millivolt DC(9V) battery power to use for E-Stim or "electrostimulation" of the genitals.
i have been using THIS form of Electro-Stim for ten years,it is NOT "Stereo-Stim" using waveform patterns as you have suggested,I am also very aware of "that type" of electro-genital stim and YES,hooking your cock and balls up to a Stereo Amplifier is inviting a disaster as men have been electrocuted through their penis and found dead using 110V Amplifier's to create these wave forms to stimulate a penis.(or a Butthole).
Tens Units(Trans-Electro-Neuromuscular-Stimulators) are safe, even on their HIGHEST settings they CANNOT harm you as long as you keep the electrodes BELOW the waistline, running even DC 100 MV across the heart as in "Nipple Stimming" had been known to cuase heart attacks.
You also cannot use "Tens Pads" on a Man's genitals,as they do not fit properly nor do they stick. I make my own electrodes from solid copper 10 guage wire, and when they turn green and nasty I throw them away amd make new ones.
E-Stim is an awesome sexual toy,if you build one RIGHT,and use ONLY a DC 9V battery for your power source.
if you are an electronics expert Frayed, you'd have already known this.

Jake you need to unhook the electrodes before you post dude...

Actually, Jake, he doesn't say anything but "like a TENS". You nor I know what he wants to build. And hey, the fact that he in no way says what he's after - of itself that suggests he doesn't know know what's bad, what's fun, and what's safe.

And no, I'm not an expert but I'm a competent engineer, but I gar-run-tee I can kill you dead with "just" a 9V battery. :) Doing it accidently isn't easy, true, but if you got no idea what end of a soldering iron gets hot, spending $60-100 for your first TENS / EMS unit... that you can start using right away... it's a far cry from the work and effort of troubleshooting and testing. I mean if you have zero experience, and it takes you a week to learn to understand a basic schematic... (One assumes if he could etch his own boards he would have said, "oh, by the way, I know what I am doing" or some such.)

Case in point, you mention mV and obviously have at least a basic understanding of current and voltage... so in between the superiority ranting I can make out that you probably wouldn't kill yourself, but what did Doug tell us? "like a TENS"? Not all that helpful. Besides a quick Google will send him to that *other* forum where we hang out specifically for E-play...

:) I think I'll post intentionally wrong schematics and a parts list for a violet wand, see how many people kill themselves... could prove entertaining.

I have just started experimenting with a 9v battery (only below the waist) both on myself and two lady friends. Saliva is a great conductor but makes the sensation too strong esp with a new battery. Can anybody recomend a pot to control the current and voltage from 0 to full? Also my electrodes are crude, what would be the best way to make them? I was thinking embedding in latex with one side exposed or into sides of a dildo. Thanks

Hi - I am really intrigued by this topic. I've only done elctro stim once when a guy used a TENS unit butt plug to stimulate my prostate. It was incredible. You sound like you know what you're doing; would you be willing to share how you constructed your electro sex toy? Yes, I know yours is a genital stimulator: it's got to be great there, too!

Using a TENS on the nipples is not dangerous with a bit of common sense.

The 9 volt units are harmless but to play super safe - do not connect across the heart - i.e one electrode to each nipple.
I have been playing with a two channel TENS unit I picked up very cheap at a car boot sale (garage sale) for several years now and my solution was to make some special electrodes for it.

Take two large clothes pegs and drill very small holes through the fattest part of the gripping part of the peg. Push a drawing pin (Thumb tack) through the hole from the inside of the peg and solder a flexible wire on to it. Tape the wire to the peg – masking tape is ideal. Do the same for the other side of the peg and after twisting the wires together, terminate in whatever connection you need – mine was a 3.5mm jack plug.
If you cannot solder the wires to the drawing pins then make the holes slightly bigger than the shaft of the pin and then push a length of bare wire through the hole from the outside and after folding over on the inside – push the drawing pin home from the inside to trap it. Glue could be used if the pin is too loose.

Clip one to each nipple and turn on. My unit has bursts of pulses each second or continuous. The continuous is not much use as you get used to it too quickly. Pulses of low frequency pulses are teasing and can border on painful. When you get to the high frequency though it is most erotic and I find a definite connection between the nipples and the penis.

I did find the unit had too little power so I wired it for 18 volts instead of the 9 and it does the job for a while but the nipples soon get used to the same pulsed frequency after a few minutes.

I would like to try these electrodes on an Electro-Stim.

I have used electro stim for at least 20 years. I started with a TENS I found at a garage sale. TENS is a cheap simple way to start but I find them very limiting and not too "exciting".

What I have settled on is stereo stim using a computer and home made box from Radio Shack parts. I am currently working on a compact all-in-one device I may be interested in selling one day soon.

If I can find the files I will post a PDF document with full instructions to make your own with low cost parts that will do the job very well! You need a simple amplifier, two small audio out put transformers and your choice of electrodes to attach to the fun parts.

I found a good source of amplifier to be a USB powered computer speaker. No need for batteries. If you get one with the sound card built in you don't need to mess with the audio cables but is optional.

You open the speaker case. You can disconnect the second speaker as you won't need it. Take the two audio transformers (RadioShack) and wire them in reverse to the speaker outputs, left and right channels. The "input" side becomes the output. You won't need the center lead...tape it off.

The other two leads provide the output to your electrodes, one each channel. You can do well with one channel alone but two are better.

I find a great "ground" electrode to be a piece of aluminum foil about 12" wide by 6" ( folded a number of times for strength with a wire lead folded into it for contact. ) Sit on it !

A great free program to generate audio files ( Fun afternoon experimenting ) is Audacity.

Tip: Make all your body connections and turn volume down to zero before turning your unit on. Then increase as desired. When you create files you like, I suggest playing them with WinAmp ( also free ) because you can easily set them to loop with little or no pause for a constant output. All of these programs are also available in Linux versions for those who prefer to avoid the Gates Empire.

Use a lubricant such as electrode gel or olive oil.

Enjoy...the worst that ever happened to me was missing dinner !

Transformers: $2.99 each. Need two for stereo or just one if you want to try the simple box using the below battery powered amp. Transformer will fit inside the box.

Amplifier for decent one channel stim box. $15.00

I'm confused about all this - experienced electro stim once (butt plug) and it was incredible. Want to try it on my own - starting simply with electrodes to the cock. I found a place called which is selling units from $30 to $100+ I have no idea if they can be used "as is" or how they can be modified. Has anyone checked this out? The electrosex toys at sex shops are just waaayyyy too expensive.
      Many thanks!

I'm with you, Robert. The sex shops are too pricey, but the only advantage is that they can set you up with just what you want, while the medical supply folks sell it for a reasonable price, but minus the cockrings, butt plugs, etc.. I've wanted one for years but gave up trying to figure it all out. I'd love to try one out with a friend if I knew one here that had one. Never have. Don't want to spend before I know I'd really like it.
        • Well, Watchdog, I'm not that sexually adventuresome, but the electro-buttplug experience buzzed open a whole new world of sensation for me, so my feeling is that, if done right, you'd probably like it. Problem is - we need an electro-sex mentor and an electro-sex tailor to help us outfit ourselves. Like you, I don't want to toss a lot of money at an online sex shop and then either burn myself or not be able to make the thing work.
btw - I looked through your pictures. I like your paintings and you, yourself, are a handsome dog. Congrats on the jury-ed prize.

Been looking into this for sometime now.... Experimented myself with a few inventions and creations.

My interest is not the source of the stimulation, it's the contacts to the skin i am trying to perfect.

Most companies that specialize in electro stimulation have developed their own special probes and toys for contact to the skin, but the are soo expensive as the majority of you already agreed.

The purpose of this thread or "Tribe" is building electro sex toys. I am new to this and this is the first forum type website I have signed up for. I am a bit nervous about releasing my ideas on probes, but will definitely share my ideas on the source of the stimulation.

    Is anyone still posting here?

This thread is incredibly old now. Although an interesting topic, there doesn't seem to be many responses that explain anything concrete. As a computer and electronic tech for decades, I'd have to say that making something "from scratch" for the average non-technical person is probably not the best way to go.

One other thing I'd like to mention is that most home-made e-stim power boxes almost always mention that Radio Shack transformer. As a Canadian, I can tell you that it's virtually impossible to buy this friggin' thing, as we don't have Radio Shack stores in this country, plus the American online store will NOT sell anything to Canadians. I was also informed by a retail clerk at The Source that Radio Shack stores are all closing down. (I have not done any research on this, but just stating what I heard.) If so, everyone better rush out and get whatever transformer is required before the place goes under.

In terms of e-stim experience, I say if you're interested in trying it out, just save up the $200 and get a real unit from a sex shop online. There are many good, solid vendors who can deliver the darn thing to your door in a many of days. You won't be wasting money, and a simple web search will help you decide what brand to buy. My own unit is a Nexus iStim. Of course, it came with those stupid pads. I ended up buying good pads really cheap on eBay, plus I bought the conductive loops for a reasonable price.

At some stage though, I do plan on making my own unit mostly because I want to experience the sound files and what they can deliver. My Nexus box has given me HFO (hands-free orgasms) but due to my own physiology, it takes a lot of work and effort to make it happen. I'm sure had I been 10 or 20 years younger, the lowest power levels would have had me blowing my load in no time. Such is not the case anymore. (Maybe I'm jaded or my nerve endings or prostate ain't what it used to be... but I digress.)

Either way, it doesn't take long to figure out what feels good. I was also lucky enough to have an online chat with a older guy who gave me lots of information, files and plans. I just need the time, a bit of money and the ability to find the parts to get all of this in the works. I'm crossing my fingers it'll happen early next year, if I'm not side-tracked by something else. If I had a bit more cash, I'd just buy a commercial box that allows audio signals. They are pricey but you'll probably own the damn thing till the day you die. We've all squandered money on crap that didn't give us much pleasure, and is just gathering dust in our basements.

I posted above back in 2009. I was inspired and wrote a DIY book on this very topic. I offer in on my web site as a printed or PDF version and it is also available on Amazon as an ebook. There is a link to the Amazon book on my site.

Cost of parts should be about $25 or so.

There are also free downloads of stim audio files as well as instructions for DIY electrodes.

I decided not to try to sell completed units for liability reasons but may put together a kit of parts if enough interest is shown.

      Check it out.

Well, here I am a year later, and still haven't done anything to make my own unit. Finding electronic parts locally is difficult. The days of the electronics hobbiest is virtually dead. Should I find a means to save some big bucks, I'll just buy a decent unit and be done with it.

I'm pretty content with my iStim machine, although it does have room for improvement in design. Here in Canada, Future Shop stores died off, Radio Shack changed over to The Source years ago, and even finding a local electronics shop selling parts is like trying to find teeth on a chicken.

Bottom line is that it's a disposable world, and people are resigned to just buying things and when they fail, chuck them out, and buy another, more modern device.
